"W-punk" frustration

I'm in the middle of revising a YA novella for an anthology and the guy putting it together wants more romance. ARG! This is why I write MG. Romance makes me gag. He told me to introduce the female-romantic-interest sooner. But it kind of screws up the plot if I do.
