Here we go. My first blog post. Since I can't think of anything else, how about an excerpt from my second book? I've been planning this one out, and it's going quite well. Here's one of my favorites:

I hugged my knees, knowing that Night would be frightened by the news of which I had to present him. I was certainly scared when my parents first told me. Told me that I would have to endure this torment forever. Of course, I was only six, and I didn't think about getting older.…

eMarketing Conference

Hi everyone!

For today’s blog I have decided to let you in on the Maryland Writers Association (MWA) and how the seminar for emarketing went. I got some new tips while I was there that I want to share with everyone!

The funniest thing is I live in Delaware and I didn’t even realize this group was in my back yard until a friend (LM Preston) on shewrites.com mentioned it to me. LM is a terrific contact and overall #1 chick. She is always been helpful to me and…

Book Signings

One thing about writing books is you have to keep your sense of humor after you publish them and start promoting them. The promotion is exciting, but it's also a lot of work that takes you away from your quiet writing time. It's at this time that I need a clone.

Books Inc. was a great host last week and the audience made me very happy.…

A wind blew and twisted the bodies around, neatly, one by one, a ghoul displaying his wares. Jon saw that arrows were thick in their faces, on the side facing the house.

Is a 18 year old-protagonist still consider to be a young adult book?

I have been wondering about this for a while now. I have read places that say all the way up to 21 will be consider young adult and other places say that as long as the content is okay then it can be a young adult novel. What do you think?

An Interview with A.S King, author of 2011 Printz Honor Book PLEASE IGNORE VERA DIETZ

A.S. King is the author of cult favorite THE DUST OF 100 DOGS and the 2011 Printz Honor Book PLEASE IGNORE VERA DIETZ, described as “deeply suspenseful and profoundly human” by Publishers Weekly, and picked as one of Kirkus Reviews’ Best Books for Teens 2010.

Recently returned from Ireland, where she spent over a decade living off the land, breeding rare poultry, teaching adult literacy, and writing novels, King now lives deep in the Pennsylvania woods with her husband and children. Her…

Past Lives and Our Writing

As adults we all have past lives, and the older we get the more we have. Pleasures we will never know again, and pains. Where do we draw the visions, tastes and textures from, that we use to make our characters feel alive to our readers? I think nowhere but our own past lives. Second hand experiences can never read as true as when we are writing about ourselves. My stories involve young men just starting out in life, in harsh circumstances. Of course, their lives are far more magical and…
