Florence Kincaid replied to Jenny Keller Ford's discussion Prologues
"One of the great challenges when there's a lot of backstory is working it into the text without it coming across as info dump. I appreciated it all the more when an author pulls it off. Sometimes a prologue is the start of the story, but…"

Jenny Keller Ford replied to Jenny Keller Ford's discussion Prologues
"I used to skip them years ago, but then I read a story some time back (I don't remember the title), but I almost smacked myself silly after I'd finished the story and decided to read the prologue. My gosh, so many of my qusetions had been…"

Florence Kincaid replied to Jenny Keller Ford's discussion Prologues
"I tend to skip prologues when I'm reading novels. They don't generally involve the MC, and usually novels convey the info later on in the story, anyway. But I see them in so many YAs, it seems a bit silly to say there's some sweeping…"

"Hi, guys. I don't know if I'm posting this in the right spot but I'd like to discuss pitch lines. I've seen lots of stuff on the site about queries and synopsis, but nothing on that all important 15-second elevator pitch. These…"

Jenny Keller Ford replied to Robin Lucas's discussion Dream Sequences/ Flashbacks
"I don't have any flashbacks in my novel. I do have a dream sequence, though. Mine begins with the mc doing his best to stay awake but his body is just not allowing it. The reader sees him nodding off and then the reader is in the dream. The…"

"Ah, goes to show how diverse opinions are. :-) Once, long ago, I had the first chapter dedicated exactly the way you suggested because I, too, felt that I need to set the characters. However, after getting several in depth reviews from some…"

Alysia Mathews Broadfield replied to Jenny Keller Ford's discussion In the Shadow of the Dragon King - Revision in the group First Pages (Crit Group)
"Jenny, This is the first time I've read this, so I haven't seen a synopsis or your previous draft(s). Your writing flows well, and the plot moves at a good pace. There's a fair amount of action going on with the appearance of…"

Jenny Keller Ford replied to Nikki Katz's discussion Picking a POV in the group Craft Masters
"What a great topic! I had to look back through my writings because I had a hunch about something and I needed to confirm it. Sure enough, my short stories are written in 1st person. My novels are written in 3rd. And it wasn't just in one or…"

"Thanks, Tom, for your comments. Yes, poor David is quite the klutz, always tripping over things, falling. When I developed his character in the beginning, I tried to think of something to give him that would contradict his nature. He's a track…"

Cathy Brett replied to Jenny Keller Ford's discussion Prologues
"This discussion is fascinating. How we authors do seem to get tied up in knots about the rules of writing! And to learn that an agent might actually 'auto-reject' a manuscript with a prologue - crazy! Imagine what they are missing!…"

"Check out my comments on the forum about Good Author's that have broken the rules. I believe if you are going to have a prologue - it better be really good. Then your 1st chapter should be even better. Brom does a great job of this in The Child…"

You have to go the membership page and see what the difference is between a paid and a just a register account, then you'll know what you will lose when the paid membership expires. The problem is that when my computer got a bad virus and I couldn't save anything, a few extras I had on that account, like my writing class certificate I earned there, I lost. =-( But we must move forward. I will drop by your work during this week. I'm currently taking a writing class and my professor has bombarded me with loads of work. But I will always squeeze time for my writing and lending a hand. Thanks for the compliment on my pics, my brother who's a photographer helped me make them.

I would be happy to see your original work. Problem is that I'm no longer a member of that site because of various reasons. One, I was disappointed that I lost all my work once my paid membership expired. Two, with my two small boys I didn't have time to deal with the site and now I totally regret erasing my account. What a bummer! LOL. But if you have it somewhere else where I can check it out, let me know and I will. Or if you have the story for register readers too to get a peek and not only paid authors, than let me know and I will make a new account. =-)

Hope all is well.

Yes, this looks like a good site to pick up needed information, not only about writing, but publishing and agents. Thanks for putting it up at YWO. I've been a little disappointed with the bookrix site, so I hope this one turns out to be more what I'm looking for. Anyway, I'll see you inside.
