The Calm Before What Comes Next

So, it’s been almost a month since my novel RESURRECTING EMILY was bought by Mary Castellani at Bloomsbury/Walker, and I have been……exhausted. Weird, right? I mean, I screamed and danced and told just about everyone I spoke to, and then I was like, Whew! (wipes brow), and I’ve been  napping a lot since. I like to think I’m recharging during this calm before what comes next. When I think about it, I tend to work this way. I push  myself…See More

Critique Group Part 2

The first time I attended a Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators critique group, I did a great impression of the Bid Red Chicken from Dora the Explorer. See this post for details. In short, I chickened out of reading from my work in progress, a young adult novel titled AESOP'S CURSE. The people sitting around the table were friendly and supportive,…See More

The Struggle for Writing Time

Lately, time to write has been more elusive than ever, even though I know there are plenty of hours in a day—24, in fact. Still, 24 hours hasn’t been enough. My blog hasn’t been updated in well over a month. About a week ago, I told my friend I’d send her the next chapter of my work in progress; it was almost done. It’s still not done. Here’s why:My day starts around 5:30 a.m. I say “around” because this depends on how many times I hit the snooze button. The morning routine involves taking care…See More

"The candle is you. Let it burn." SCBWI Highlights

This past weekend, I attended my first big writer’s conference: the NY gathering of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. I had wavered about whether to go or not, but decided to attend largely thanks to Kimberly Sabatini, author of TOUCHING THE SURFACE, a YA novel coming out September 2012 by Simon Pulse. Kim and I “met” through …See More

About Me (the short version)

Hi! I'm Cindy L. Rodriguez, the author of Resurrecting Emily, a contemporary young adult novel that will be published by Bloomsbury/Walker. I am represented by Laura Langlie. My "day job" is a high school reading teacher/specialist. Before becoming a teacher, I worked as a reporter for The Hartford Courant and as a researcher for The Boston Globe. I did the grunt work for an investigative series that was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. I have a bachelor's degree from the University of Connecticut, a master's degree from Central Connecticut State University, and two teaching certifications. I live in Connecticut with my daughter and dog.

Hi Cindy!

There are two buttons - you have to initially choose "register". It's a seperate account essentially so you have to create a new one by registering. After which choosing "login" will work.
