Day 8 Teaser: It could be some kind of home invasion and here I am rushing toward it like Velma from Scooby Doo. If only it was something simple like Old Man Johnson pretending to be the Snow Beast or a ghost pirate.

I also decided to merge six planned chapters into two. If I was getting bored writing it, I'm sure the reader would be bored reading it.
"Do you have any pets in your city?" she asked.
"Nope," said Rupert. "Everybody ate the pets."

“Come with me, littluns,” she said, pulling the hand of the smallest bear. The others grabbed hold and Clare led a chain of tiny bears through the forest toward the field. At six, Clare was the oldest of the littuns, since her brother Robbie no long played with them. At the edge of the field she stared, not believing her eyes. The cleanly harvested field from a few days ago was now a mess of withered, wet corn husks and stalks. They lay everywhere across the field. The winds had obviously carried the piles of debris and scattered it across the fields so they couldn’t be plowed until they had been cleaned up again.
In the distance she saw Farmer Bear strolling through the debris field, holding his head and moaning. She had an idea and gathered the littluns around her to share it. They all nodded and scattered across the field as though blown by the storm winds.

Instead, I nearly fell backwards off my own bunk I was so startled to see two transparent girls hovering in the impossibly narrow space between the bunks, staring down at me. Instead of falling, however, my bottom hit a spot in the air so freezing it caused me to flip over on my bunk to investigate, thereby saving me a probable broken leg or neck. However, the ensuing near heart attack might not have been worth it. Another transparent girl floated on this opposite side of my bunk, also staring at me. She smiled as I scooted immediately toward the head of my bed, holding my pillow before me as a shield and yanking the blanket up to my chin. The cold I had experienced moments earlier, however, spread throughout my being until I shivered uncontrollably.
