Middle Grade Lair's Mission within YAlitchat!

Have a love of Middle Grade books? Come be inspired while inspiring others!

It's great being a Young Adult writer, isn't it? But some YA writers, like yourselves, choose to explore other arenas of the KidLit world, including Middle Grade. So here, in our fabulous MG Lair, we'll explore what makes those tween years of pre/post puberty infamous and memorable all at the same time. (Ages 8 -12; grades 3 - 6.)

Some of our agents are now taking submissions for Middle Grade. YAY! So keep that in mind. Please visit our First Pages, Pimp My Scene, Query Kick Around, & Synopsis Repair Groups just as you would for any YA manuscript you might have written. Shine those manuscripts up!!

The Friends offer great opportunities for writers to connect to local readers, Mike. So glad you had a good experience.

Thanks, Laura, Sheri, and Suzanne. It was so much fun.

Laura, I subscribe to our local paper mainly to be entertained by the mistakes, mis-quotes, and mis-information. Very entertaining, but also a little sad.

Suzanne, the parallels between sports coaching and the writing life have been a pleasant surprise. We called the vitals the P's (Purpose, Pride, Passion, Persistence, and Performance). In the end, though, in just about any endeavor, hard work is the magic.

Congratulations, Mike! I thought the analogy between coaching and writing was very interesting!

Today the very first blog review of my book Gadget Girl was posted here:

Congrats, Mike! I read the article, and all the info was really interesting, plus they included a lot of quotes from you, so readers feel they got to know you as well as the book. Awesome! (Someone needs to teach the editor about punctuation though.)

I had my first author speaking gig last Saturday. I had the honor to be the guest speaker at our local Friends of the Library annual meeting. Love my small town library!

Here is a link to the newspaper article (it's about 90% accurate, which is about a  40% accuracy increase over normal for our paper):
