I think I agree ... and disagree with this.  I can say that networking and branding can also help get your foot in the door.  But yes, the book and your writing are the most important things!

It's so interesting to see how Veronica Roth nearly doubled her word count in edits, instead of hacking away at it (gives me hope, as I tend to write sparse!!)
