Does anyone know of a book that was specifically written with the intention of it being made into a film?

Has The Film EVER Been Better Than The Book?

I can name a few times people have commented that the film was nothing like the book or worse than the book but I don't recall hearing that film was better than the book. I saw Twilight with a friend…Continue

You warned me, a message I didn't heed--unfortunately. I have a post coming this week on my The YA-5 blog. I'll touch on it but not go into detail. I'll see the next film but it left a bad taste in my mouth.

I know! I almost couldn't write the review. Sometimes I feel so strongly against a film that I refuse to write the review -- it brings up too many "bad memories" if that makes sense? This one toed that line. So, I feel your pain.

Oh good Lord. I haven't even let my parents read my novel yet. I'm too afraid they'll punish me for encouraging the use of bad words and inappropriate behavior in teens--Grrr. I don't know if the average person can actually understand how screenplays are supposed to read. It's like a different language. I will NOT be at the launch party on Thursday. I could have sworn I posted that updated. I guess I didn't. DD is still in school throu the 26th. Thought she'd be out but was wrong --AGAIN. Seems to be happening a lot lately--my being wrong.

Georgia --
Yes, I'd love to share experiences and headaches! My email is dksalerni@gmail.com -- plus, I think you're going to be at the Launch Party on Thursday, right?

A funny story: I offered to share my latest screenplay draft with my mother, thinking to get some feedback on the way in which I have restructured the story. She gave me a sharp look and told me she HATED movies that didn't follow the book exactly. Whereupon I retracted my offer. Geez, if you can't count on your own mother for support, who can you count on?

Hey Dianne! Similarly afflicted! Learning as I go but adapting my own novel is a HUGE learning curve. I do have support from experience screenwriters (mostly advice) and reading any screenplay I can get my hands on. I'm actually interviewing Andrew and Adam--more like taking readers through their adventure as their take their book The Familiars from page to screen with Sam Raimi. It's going to be awesome. Would love to hear about your experience. I started out seeking a co-writer but had no takers since it was on spec, so going it alone. Kudos to you. Well done. Keep me posted. Let's def talk offline.

Hi, everyone! Just wondering if anyone here has worked on a screenplay -- an original one or one based on a book (your own or somebody else's.) I've just spent the last 9 months working on one. I hated it at first (it is SO different from writing narrative), but now I think I've got the screenwriting bug! Anybody else similarly afflicted?

Tim Burton is attached to the ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER project. He got excited supposedly after viewing the book's trailer. My mind is officially BLOWN to bits.

The book was released TODAY from Grand Central Publishing. Though the film is not "set up" anywhere (Hollywood speak meaning no studio attached) Burton is attached to produce while the author will write the adaptation--something that almost NEVER happens. You must read this story from The Hollywood Reporter.
