Okay, so The Oddville Press is short of staff and we have a lot of slush pile reading to catch up on since we've been closed since May (or June) and just opened back up in September. (Despite telling people you're closed, people still send subs). I'm not entirely certain exactly what we need, but it's likely more slush pile readers, and there are lots of advantages to slush piling. For one thing, you get first hand of what works and what doesn't. You also learn how to swallow your own biases and look for what fits with the magazine's guidelines (we appreciate odd things). You'll also learn not to take rejection so harshly the next time you receive one, because I've had to reject stories I really liked just because they didn't fit with the guidelines. In the long run, I also believe slush piling improves your writing skills because of the whole what works and what doesn't work factor.
