Book lovers, I soooo wanted to enjoy this film. Needless to say, I left disappointed and feeling grifted.

Let me know what you thought of it. Did you think it was as bad as I did? Were you disappointed with how much it strayed from the book?

I'm going to see it this afternoon. I'll tell you want I think. One thing I already know that I'm disappointed with is the age of the actor playing Percy. He is not 12! 16 or 17 maybe. Already that changes the entire dynamics of the story. What will happen when they film the last Percy Jackson movie and he's 25?
Yeah, I was disappointed by the age of the actor as well. HOWEVER, I don't think they will age him so much. There is no where to age him to. I think they wanted movie-goers to be widely interested in this film and since it did not have the broad reader appeal as HP they aged the protag. But, what do I know? I've not seen it. Home with the flu. Grrr. Megan, gonna read your review. Grrrr. Thanks for posting. Ali, let me know what you think.

Sorry your sick, Georgia. Hope it doesn't last long.

And thanks for the review, Megan. I think your review was spot on.

Did you find yourself not caring about the characters? I thought there wasn't any depth of emotion, and I'm sure that had to do with the poor acting and dialogue that was constantly restating the action. It was like I was being pushed through the movie instead of following the characters along their journey. Not only were there all those annoying plot holes (How did Percy's mom know the combination to get into Mt. Olympus?), there were huge changes in plot. The search for the pearls? That wasn't in the book. The fight scene with the water towers in New York City? That wasn't in the book. It was like that again and again. I'm really looking for something good to say. I liked Hades' small part.

And speaking about character development, they hit on my biggest pet peeve...ego. I'm sure it's personal, but it really gets my Grover when heroes discover their powers and think they're all that. Stop smirking and get down to business.

Maybe it's just me. I am sort of hard on movies. But I had the pleasure of taking along a few 13 year-olds who read the book. So I asked them what they thought. They shrugged and said, "It was okay." Translation: not that great.
The restating of the action drove me crazy. We hear no more than 4 times they are going to the Parthenon in Nashville. Then when they get there? Annabeth says, "Wow, a full scale replica of the Parthenon in Nashville." Seriously, where are the good showing and not telling script writers? We've got the addition of film -- we can SEE it's a full scale replica. I'll take Georgia's line and insert it here: Grrrrrr

I didn't care about the characters at all. I didn't like any of them. And there were SO many plot holes. Grover cuts Annabeth's arm from the stone statue, but the stone hand is still gripped around her wrist. Yet she just pulls it off? Why couldn't she do that before?

Anyway, I'm glad you thought my review was spot on. I've been getting a lot of flack for this review. I know I was a bit harsh, but when I leave the theater wishing I had my money back, it deserves a negative review.
here's a list of thing i found horribly wrong with the movie
-They cut out Clarrise and Ares
-Annabeth was way to aggressive
-that dumb rule about gods not seeing their children
-the fact that they just know he's the son of Posiden
-NO mention of a phrophecy
- the age difference( and in real life Grover and Annabeth are already 25+)
- there was NO interaction with the gods.I was really looking forward to that
-grover was concieted
-Now as a High schoower i found the lotus hotel scene funny but it looks like they part of the circle from that 70's show. it was really inappropriate for younger kids.
-how powerful percy is without any training
- they totally took away Annabeth and Luke's History
- Annabeth knew almost nothing about arithecture(i cant spell sorry)
- Grover knew as much about Mythology as Percy did
-Annabeth only knew a little more
-HOW DID PERCYS MOM KNOW HOW TO GET TO OLYMPUS?
-and isnt there a way a mortal can get into camp half blood?
-Dionysus???? where was he?
-no seaweed brain:(
-and so much more i cant name everything

when i first saw the film i watched it with the actors and it was very fun and exhilerating to meet them so the movie seemed pretty good as a movie not when you you compare it to the book and there were some funny scens and all that jazz then i saw it again and saw all the flaws and everything that was missing. i understand oyu have to cut things out when you make a movie but i just dont see how they are going to do all five books with what they gave us...
