Permalink Reply by Christopher Wills on March 17, 2011 at 3:55am Interesting post because I was also thinking about nanowrimo, although in my case it is nanowrimo 2011 because I'm 6 months behind this post. My goal for this week was to try and upload my first novel to Smashwords. I managed this successfully. http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/47830 I wrote this book, or 50,000 words of it, in nanowrimo 2003.
Next I intend to edit a book I wrote in nanowrimo 2009. I'm hoping to get this done and self published by August. Hence me thinking about nanowrimo 2011. Do I write a sequel to my current novel? Do I write a sequel to the one I am editing, which is designed as a series? It's a book about a ghost world that exists in parallel with ours. Or do I write something entirely new?
I don't do nanowrimo every year but it's a fantastic way to get an editable novel done in quick time. I'd recommend it to everyone. Not only do you get a lot of words; even if you fail you might easily get 20,000 to 30,000 words in 30 days which is more than some might write in a year. But for me the best thing about nanowrimo is the glow of satisfaction after, that I know I can write 50,000 words in 30 days. They might not be the right words, and they may not be in the right order, but as they say; "there's no such thing as good writing, only good editing," and "you can't edit a blank page."
